June Flies from the Vice

That is superbly tied Havard, and it rather breaks the mould. The convention is the tip should be made the same length as the barb, and the tag the same length as the spear. But I find myself looking at that fly, and thinking, "Why not". It is good to break convention from time to time.

Cheers,
C.

Sometimes conventions goes out the window! I love trying out new stuff, so things like this is good on a sunday!

The pattern comes from Warren Duncan originally, and is a silver doctor variant.

The extended body mayfly looks like it should catch a lot of fish. Technically speaking I can't say much because I don't do much with extended bodies, perhaps a smidgen less meat (slimmer), but dang it looks buggy and the burnt wings are a nice touch.

Is that a squirrel tail wing I see eide?

I have some American grey squirrel tail from hunting I use here and there but find it tricky to work with.

Squirrel tail, yes. Can be a bit tricky, either use good wax, or pinch it good and use a small drop of superglue to ensure it stays in place.

A pattern I haven't tied much recently. Not that much call for them locally. A couple of Buzzer (chronomid pupa) coated in resin.

Crackaig ... is that red and black one a weave, or counter wrapped? Nice looking buzzers, both of them.

Nice Mayfly

nice wings ! did you cut doen the cdc feather ?

I used a Magic Tool to insert the CDC into a dubbing loop as Petitjean does, then trimmed off the tips before spinning the loop because I only wanted short CDC fibers. It was almost like a CDC chenille.
