Best weight rod?

Recommended Posts

So far I have a 3 weight, two 5 weights, and a 7 weight all are l.l. Bean(which I think are the best rods for the money)except for one write and McGill and I've recently gotten into freshwater and saltwater striper fishing, huge bass, and bluefish, flounder, redfish, and big sea trout and all I have used I'd my seven weight but I'm starting to get into some big fish(30+ pounds) and was wondering if I'm a little under gunned and what weight you guys would suggest

Base the weight of line you use on the size of fly you are casting. If your 7 weight is "carrying" the flies you are using in the cast well, then you may just need a 7 wt with more backbone. You should use a line heavy enough that you don't feel the fly tugging at either end of the cast.

Cheers,

C.

That is it my friend. If you want a 7wt with lots of backbone get a Colton tradewinds. That is a rod with some back bone. I do believe that you would like a 9wt to help fight the wind and cast some bigger flies but if either of those issues is not a factor then as mentioned a 7wt with more backbone might be your answer.
