Clouser Swap II

Recommended Posts

The only thing about clousers or that style of tie, and I've been doing them much of the day, is that when I turn the fly over to work on the bottom of the hook I tend to job myself continuously. I purpose use red thread so the blood doesn't mess up the color too much. Start material, smooth it back, jab finger, move up slide back, jab thumb. Other than that I don't mind clousers and actually finished mine today. I did spend quite a bit of time at vise to do it though. Not a fast tie for me and I can never get the nice looking head wraps a lot of guys can. Clouser is based on my favorite color of streamer, the Mickey Finn.

I should add on here that if any you guys are steelheaders I used a low water salmon hook which gives a nice platform for the dumbbell eye. Between the bright eye and the body and color combo, I would love to had this when I fished the steelhead on a regular basis in MN, WI, and MI. I can't help but think it would be very attractive to them and the hook is plenty strong for any size you run into.

I was thinking about that last time I tied Clousers. When I turn the fly I started spiking my thumb holding the material on purpose so I did not stick myself harder.

I think I'm going to try a tiny piece of foam stuck to the point to reduce the punctures. If anyone else tries this, let us know if it helps or just gets in the way.

Dang Jolly Red, no way it could work. Too simple and makes perfect sense. How could something like that work? LOL

I also have some lures with trebles that come from the store with a little piece of clear plastic over the hooks. Something else to try. Dang, I'm already finished with mine and the bandaids should come off within the next week.

Jason ask if I would do these for the swap and I agreed.

It could be construed as a very very loose interpretation of a Clouser.

Show us what you got and pimp out your Clousers.

We all can attach an eye, some flash and a two clumps of bucktail or other material to a hook.

Time to step it up a few notches.

Just finished applying head cement on my last clouser variation. I'm ready for the address in a PM whenever you have a chance. Thanks!

HA...So that's why I checked it and couldn't figure out how I forgot to post it when I knew I'd set it all up. I did post it, just not in the right place. Suppose I could add some barbell eyes to it and call it a clmouser fly.
