SilverCreek 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2015 I don't rhink he is talking about soaking the gut strings for tennis, but for unraveling them to get the individual threads separated for fly tying.
Piker20 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2015 Here in the UK relatively long lengths from 0.6mm dia up are sold for grandfather clock repairs. Works out cheaper than flyshop by a long way.
Fotwin 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2015 I bought some catgut of various colours and diameters a couple of weeks ago from a well known Romanian company,Trout Line, at troutline.ro I hav'nt used it yet but it looks good quality. It took about a week for the materials to come from Romania to my home in Scotland., by normal post. Hope the above is useful Fotwin PS I have just realised the above is the same material which Heavynets posted earlier
troutguy 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2017 Catgut was usually lamb or pig intestines. I have my Grandfather's leader holder. It was a metal container that you would keep your leaders in with wet newspaper. OK everyone that is looking for cheap catgut close to home without paying expensive shipping etc, send me a fly and I will give you my source. Ready? Lambskin condoms. They can be rinsed, then dried, cut to shape (triangles for tapered bodies or straight lines for segmented no taper) and colored with markers. Just remember, if you are fishing in strange lands, naturals only stop pregnancy. You're welcome.

cphubert 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2017 Thanks JSzymczyk that was a excellent post, I have seen it for sale it but never realized the number of worms required for production. Explains the high price for blind eye cat gut.
