I want to see your Steve Farrar Fiber baitfish. Saltwater, freshwater, doesn't matter. Here are some of mine.

My favorite is the bottom one, Owner AKI.

Very nice! I've never used that material. I have some similar, but have yet to really get into tying with it much.

I've always preferred natural materials.

 

Here's some flies I've tied with that type of synthetics, and I have a lot left to learn.

 

Not the same, but there is some kanekelon fibers in this fly. The rest is a combination of Polar Flash, Krystal Flash, Flashabou & the body is Hackle Flash. Based on the Murdich Minnow.

 

Again, not that style. Bluefish flies tied with crimped nylon & flash.

 

Clouser style, more kenkelon fibers. Gray over white.

 

Another Clouser style and again kanekelon. Lavender over gray over white.

 

One of my favorites. "Rain Bait". Kankelon again. Clouser style too, there are barbells under the 3 D eyes.

 

Tied on an offset worm hook. I was trying to imitate herring. Black over gray over white with pearl Polar Flash. There may be a few strands of other color flash in there as well.

 

Another. There is some purple flash in this one.

Very nice, tidewaterfly. What is the hook on this clouser? Interesting hook shape for a reverse barb.

This is one i made for seatrout. It looked ok in the water, but when the darkness crept in I thought it was too translucent to give a good profile against the nightsky.

That hook is a discontinued VMC spinnerbait hook. It has a round bend with the point slightly turned in towards the shank, and an "out" barb as the barb is on the outside. It's black like a salmon hook. I bought a box of 1000 in 2/0 several years ago and got a great deal on them. I'll try any hook, and I like those, no issues, but for whatever reason I guess they didn't sell very well. Only criteria I have with hooks is they're the size I need, they're strong & sharp, and that hook meets all of them. Color or where the barb is located don't concern me, & besides I mash the barbs anyway.

 

The two flies I posted above that one are also tied on spinnerbait hooks. They're Mustad Ultra Points in 2/0 and a darn fine hook as well. Only issue I have with them is they're nickel plated & when I use them in saltwater they rust rather quickly. Still, I use them even in the salt and since those flies are intended for Bluefish, I lose a lot of them to bite off's so the hooks don't get the chance to rust.

 

BTW, VMC has a treble hook they call a "Barbarian". It's a good hook too and was originally made with an out barb.Howeve, folks shy away from them because of where that barb is located. Now, VMC makes them with the barb inside the bend and folks like them and they good reviews on some other fishing sites I visit. Same hook, different location of the barb.

I am a fan of spinnerbait hooks too, the best ones I've found are Gamakatzu. Good hook for Barracuda flies and poppers.

 

Stout pike and bass flies too.

These are tied with materials that I flash blended after a class conducted by Steve Farrar for my salt water club where he showed us his techniques for flash blending.
