Martinez Killer Diller (variation)

A variation of Don Martinez' Trude variation, from the 30's-40's; I've seen it with a dubbed body, too.

 

 

hook - Dai Riki 280 #10

thread - Danville 6/0 black

tag - tinsel gold

tail - hackle fibers ginger

rib - x-fine wire gold

body - Uni-stretch yellow

body hackle - grizzly (undersize by 2)

wing - Grey squirrel tail

hackle - grizzly

IMHO...The fly name "Killer Diller" is the greatest of all time. It may not be the greatest of flies but that name gets me every time.

 

Lots of memories there , and a great time in American fly fishing history to reflect on.

I've been trying to make a Europea 12 fly like the ones I see in pictures online. The last itteration came close enough I think. I think this was a really good learning experience.

Tied on the bigger iron for clarity's sake; 16's and 18's will go in the tailwater box.

 

hook - Dai Riki 135 #12

thread - MFC 8/0 hot orange

tag - tying thread

tail - pheasant tail

rib - x-fine wire copper

abdomen - pheasant tail

thorax - peacock herl

bead - 7/64" gold

Lots, and lots of bucktail! It's nothing but hackle, bucktail, rattles, flash and 6/0 hooks.

The fly is a craft fur shrimp.... craft fur into a dubbing brush, and then for thebover wing... a little marabou, and some legs for movement....
