FlaFly 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2015 Not long back at a music festival, I ran into a guy with flies on his baseball cap... I asked about them and found that they had been tied on safety pins instead of hooks. He said (I think) that at a Healing Waters event they had tied them to sell. He had one nice black hopper. I did a little research and found nothing on any Healing Waters site about them. I did, though, find that there was a thread on FTF back in Nov 2004 about a Safety Pin Swap. It's at topic 6330 Also there was an article in Hatches about them. http://www.hatchesmagazine.com/page/news/379 I know some folks tie flies using a safety pin as the body, but with hooks (sometimes treble hooks), but these are just ornaments on pins. I'm gonna make me some. Anyone else done this (or any still around from that 2004 swap)? Here's an example, but the one I saw were on smaller pins so you couldn't even see them. mikechell 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2015 Hmmm ... I think I just figured out a cheap Christmas gift for a couple of people I know. I can probably get a few of those tied up in a couple of hours. Something else to do on December 23rd ... when I do my shopping.

mikechell 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2015 HEY!! It's got so many pros to it. I get to give a unique gift. I get to give a gift without spending much money. I get to use up some of those materials I don't tie with. The only "con": I have to spend time tying something I won't be fishing with.
