Not sure how effective they are, but these are a lot of fun to tie. Here's the vid if you'd like to see how Jay does it:

[video=youtube;BwutI1mK5-o]

hook - Mustad 3906B #8
thread - Danville 6/0 black
rib - fine oval tinsel gold
body - yarn hot orange
wing - pheasant tail fibers
overwing - Krystal Flash hot orange
over/over wing - egg yarn cerise (pattern calls for hot pink yarn, of which I have none)
hackle - hen grizzly

Regards,
Scott

Cool looking bugs Retro. Fish magnets for sure. I really like those baby legs in the dubbing.

Pulled out the pheasant skin turned up the heat on this nippy November evening and cranked out a few Gartside Sparrows along with some weighted PT nymphs. I like to team them up and fish the two together.

Not seen a sparrow before but love the look of it. Can see that working well over here.

I love this pattern too. It is effective on many species as well. There are several variations I've seen, but I try to stick as closely to Jack Gartside's pattern as possible. I use it a lot over here in Japan so it should do well for you in Scotland. Piker, here's a link to the late Jack Gartside's site where I found the pattern.
