Articulated Trout Streamers

Recommended Posts

Thanks guys. I've been tying this fly since the end of summer and it's been real productive. To answer the question about the tubing it is kind of a pain to use at first. I ended up wasting around half of my first pack before I started to get a hang of it. You need to use really strong thread on this stuff. Surprisingly though I've found GSP to be awful for tying it down. GSP is slick and so is the tubing. No matter how tight I had it tied down some times it would slip out when I went to fold it back. I've been using danville's flat waxed and it works a lot better. I like the tubing because you can get a big profile without using a ton of material. I use it a bunch on my really big flies(musky stuff/White River stuff) and on a few of my smaller trout streamers, mostly my swap fly(the Hambone) and a sculpin I'm still working on.

Flies were mailed out today. Sorry for the delay. As many have already said, I had to go out and buy more materials. My fingers also look like they have been run over a cheese grater. ( kept snagging the trailing hook) Really excited for this swap there are some great looking flies in the bunch!!

Hey psycho and others who add blood to a lot of flies like I used, especially bendback flies you have to tie upside down, here's the answer. I'd love to claim this and patent it but I'm almost certain it was a random thought from Fishin'BobNelson when talking about this that fixed it for me. He just said something about wonder if it would help to stick a piece of rubber over the point. EUREKA I now keep some little hard chunks of rubber on the table and whenever working with hooks on any of the big flies like the articulated and the bendback salties I spear the rubber chunk over the point and then relax and tie the fly as I bump off the rubber many times without poking any holes in my skin. I joked about bleeding on the salties I just finished but actually never stuck myself once. Try it, you'll like it.

The extra with the deer hair head is Andreas Andersson's Sid. The black one is craft fur reverse tied over polar chenille in back then hollow tied bucktail up front with reverse craft fur over that. That last fly is really just Mike Schmidt's Junkyard Dog with the marabou underbody replaced with polar chenille and schlappen twisted up together.

Ok this is not cool. I ordered the last materials I needed to finish my flies a dozen days ago. Had to use stockard for the small order and usual speed of service I have had in the past. As of today still nothing Will keep all informed Stuff should be here any day, and the finish time for the flies will only be a couple of hours. May have to express these to keep them on time
