Need help with Rod building

Recommended Posts

I couldn't make an account in the rod building forum for some reason so I thought id ask here, I want to build a one or two weight Rod and have done some reading on Rod building but I can't seem to find a good website to buy Rod blanks or components really. Id like to find a kit if possible. Does anyone have any tips or ideas for what I can do?

Thanks

Try Hook and Hackle. They sell components and kits as well. Subscribe to their web site as they run good online sales almost every week. I've bought quite a bit from them over the years. Might also try Scheidners (sp?) Rod Shop in Mountain Home,AR.

Look at Rodbuilders.org web site for tons of info and a good list of suppliers.

Midwestcustomflyrods.com

Steve builds rods, but he's also guided some guys through building their own. You can E-mail him through his site or PM him on this site ... he is "steeldrifter".

I don't think he sells kits himself, but I am sure he knows where good supplies can be had.

You can go through the Fly Fishing forum and look for threads he's started to see the rods he builds.

Steve, I hope I haven't overstepped boundaries by suggesting you as an information source.

Some of the best prices I've gotten and actually can call if you wanted to is Jann's Netcraft. http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/

Steeldrifter ( Steve) is probably going to hook you up with Karen at Bingham Enterprises. If you contact her then in due time she will get back to you and probably treat you fairly as well.. Somehow some way, it seems that contact wasn't meant to work out for me personally but I know that a good bunch of the rod builders forum members use her so it can't be a bad deal LOL !

As far as a decent online store front goes and looking for kits of this or that you would/ will do well with Janns or one of the others mentioned above ( I've used Mudhole as well, just watch out for the bottom grade stuff but they have top grade stuff as well).

I usually use Utmost Enterprises. I've described what I was looking for, usually after searching online and familiarizing myself with the different styles available in components from various manufacturers. They've been very helpful. I've also bought a few components from Bingham Enterprises. another good source.

there are so many options in vendors and component manufacturers it can be dizzying. good luck!

Hook and Hackle right now has some really discounted rod blanks that might be of interest to some folks. Add a components kit and a nice rod could be built.

I buy a lot of stuff from Karen Hapka at Bingham...OUTSTANDING to work with and always replies to me.

I also purchase from Mudhole

Anglers Workshop

And Get Bit Outdoors

I have seen some decent kit type things offered on eBay from Roger Penrose and also from Anglers Habitat as well

GOOD LUCK IN YOUR NEW HOBBY
