retrocarp 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2016 Tied up some Beck's Super Buggers this weekend. Accidently left the legs off the first few, but they'll fish anyway. Carp and trout ?? What sizes if you don't mind me asking ? I'm going to try them on largemouth bass, but they'd probably work with both carp and trout. I think most are tied these on Allen B200 #10 & 12, but one or two may be on Mustad 3366 #4. The Allen hook is a large gape bass fly hook, sharp as heck, equivalent to a TMC 8089. I like the large gape to make sure those bucket mouths get hooked. Thanks .
retrocarp 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2016 Mike is spot on. What the customer wants. I wouldn't do the wings with CdC either if they were for me. This would be more the sort of thing I'd tie for myself. However, he who pays the piper... I just wish he would hurry up! Cheer Nice work crackaig Why deer hair as opposed to foam extended bodies 36 DOZEN flies, Retro. Commercial tier ... I'm guessing you tie what the customer wants, not what you like or what's "easier". Now that you're selling flies, too, you might get into this kind of thing! Valid point Mike .....Noted I doubt there will be that much of a call for my flies lol Fly fishing in Australia especially where I am is a bit hit and miss due to droughts. Maybe I should have called myself notenuffwater lol

josephcsylvia 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2016 Thank you chrome, that streamer there is pretty sweet. Im in the monthly swap and trying to step my "small" fly game up. Im going to be tying my own pattern in size 20 which is painfully hard with hands my size, but I tied one tonight and it came out great.

Crackaig 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2016 The Cream, That fly was tied because someone said to me that neither Wally Wings or the Petitjean wings could be tied upside down. However, I have used up side down dry flies quite a lot, and have learned a few things. Also I have exchanged ideas with Roy Christie, who knows more than most about these. The long shank curved hooks, like the Klinkhamer ones give a really good look to the fly, but do not fish at all well. The weight of the hook bend is too far from the eye, causing the tail to sink. When I want to tie a larger fly then I go with the detached body method. That keeps the weight where it can be supported easily, around the thorax. That is why this fly is tied on a short curved hook. The Wally Wings have surprised me with their longevity. No guarantee unless you can guarantee where in the mouth you'll hook a trout. I would say though that the Wally Wings would generally outlast the foam detached body on this fly. It is a fly I would reserve for the pickiest of trout in, probably the smoothest of glides. Cheers, C.

Regards, Scott I prefer a fly that gets taken by fish, rather than sitting on top ALL day. You've got a winner with that foam, extended-body method you're using.
