SBPatt 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2016 Tying directly to the hook obviates the need for a needle or whole body transplant. Started as a just-screwing-around attempt at a green drake but it turned out well enough. A few pics dropped out and had to re-shoot some of the initial sequence, so you may notice some discrepancies. hook - Dai Riki 135 #10 thread - UTC 140 olive brown tail - moose body hair/Uni-stretch brown abdomen - 1mm foam olive thorax - dubbing olive wing - hen hackle tips black hackle - grizzly dyed olive (Hacklestacker) mash barb, start thread, tie in a loop of Uni-stretch clean, stack, measure a clump of moose body hair; tie in/trim butts hook the loop onto the gallows, adjust the hook angle down spiral thread up and down the loop, wrapping the moose taper a strip of foam; Super Glue it to the tail, pinch and trim brush Super Glue on underbody, wrap foam to hook; tie off/trim re-adjust hook angle, trim off tag end of loop tie in thread loop at base of abdomen insert loop in gallows again; tie in hackle wrap hackle up and down post (thorax width); tie off at base/trim prep a pair of hackle tips (convex facing); kinda at the end of decent black hackle tips tie in, set angle with front/back/crossing wraps dub thorax pull hackle forward between wings; tie down tie off/trim, half hitch x 2, SHHAN Regards, Scott

FIN-ITE 34 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2016 Scott, Can you give me some background/history/naming of "Carnage". I'm sure it isn't related to the comic books.
SBPatt 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2016 Can you give me some background/history/naming of "Carnage". I'm sure it isn't related to the comic books. Adam Trina, founder of Montana Fly Company, developed the Carnage series of flies; I'm not sure where he got the name from. He forms his bodies on a waxed needle, then attaches it to the hook. I started tying mine that way, but had problems getting consistent, durable flies; adding the mono core and building the body directly on the hook has solved both of those issues.
