Guest Report post Posted November 25, 2003 I like to drift mine , kinda like a huge spinner....but , like you stated, have had many agressive fish take it in mid-air, especially green sunfish and rockbass....was just curious on your thoughts. Thanks, John!

woollywilma 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2004 I've been playing around a lot with damsels recently. I notice that A lot of adult patterns are tied with spent wings, but damsels hatch with dun type, upright wings. So, I've been tying them with... 1. foam or twisted poly-yard extended body (I really like the damsel loco foam - great sparkle). 2. I tie in a piece of foam at the bend and cut it length-wise down the middle almost all the way to the tie in point. You'll later pull this foam over the parachute hackle. The cut allows for the upright wings to poke thru the foam. 3. use wing material like dun feathers, poly-yarn, super hair or cut to shape thin shiny plastic paper from craft store to tie in an upright position. 4. Dub the body with damsel-blue dry fly dubbing. 5. Tie in large grizzly hackle & wrap parachute style. 6. Continue dubbing the body 7. Tie in plastic eyes 8. Pull parachut hackle back, away from eyes and fold the foam back over & tie down behind eyes. Let the wing stick up through the cut in the foam. 9. tie in some blue, small diameter estaz or ice chenile behind the eyes and wrap figure eights around eyes. 10. Fold remaining foam over eyes and head. Tie off / cut foam but leave a bit extending over hook eye I have never fished this pattern but It looks really nice, is very visible, floats well, and sits perfectly in the water - Adam
