flyfishingheaven 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2005 I would have to say bar none the Bow River. I may be partial since I live in Calgary, but there is no other river that i have fished that offers as much of a challenge with huge fush for a pay off. It flows throught eh Rocky Mountains offering a breath taking view...did I mention the fish....yup this has to be the best river ever.
conehead 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2005 The little Juniata is very good; I try to make it there a couple of times a year. I had one of the best afternoons of my life on the little J (36 trout in 4 hours). The Juniata is also great smallmouth water. But I must say.... The Susquehanna is a river that can't be beat. Loaded with fish, cover, insect life, and every type of structure you would ever desire (shallow streams, weed beds, islands & points, deep holes, lakes, riffles & runs, small falls, low head dams, and in the winter there are warm water discharges from power plants with 70 degree water temps you can wade in he middle of January. While fishing for smallmouth you can land carp, catfish, musky, walleye, shad, striped bass, and even trout. It's a fishery that's hard to beat. The best part about it? It’s only 15 minutes from my house. Conehead
Dble Haul 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2005 The Bow River may be nice, but we're talking east of the Mississippi. I'd have to say the Housatonic River in MA and CT. In its upper reaches there's outstanding trout, smallmouth, carp, and pike fishing, and as it reaches Long Island Sound there are shad, stripers, fluke, bluefish, and weakfish to be caught. Depending on the season, you can catch a large variety of fish on this river, and all on a fly.
scissorhand 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2005 The best river for me is the Battenkill in Manchester Vt. it offers everything you could want in a river. Brook Trout that are eager to take a dry and bountiful aquatic life. Oh and did I mention the Green Moutains as far as the eye can see!

hexfli 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2005 I'll go with the Pere Marquette here in Michigan. A breathtaking natural river with Great trout fishing year round paired up with sensational salmon/steelhead runs. I'm a bit biased, but the PM is a crown jewel
Guest Report post Posted February 16, 2005 Maybe the thread sould be called "What is your favorite fly fishing river" Here it is the Scioto River. When I fish it sometimes I forget I'm in central ohio. has everything from mud to gravel to rock to tablerock in it. Contain some beautiful smallmouth and largemouth, rockbass, crappie, white bass, decent gills, saugers, carp and catfish. I truely enjoy fishing it. flymaster 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2005 Try South Holston Tailwaters. Stays very cold all year and has incredible hatches. And there are chances for trophy browns and bows. All around a great river and a big water. FM
sparkleminnow 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2005 Man, there are just too many good ones to pick a "best". S.W, Wisconsin tribs, near LaCrosse, have been called the Montana of the MidWest. It has really beatiful scenery with great hatches, and both naturally reproducing brook trout and brown trout. Lots of different streams to choose from; all good. OR, go to North Georgia, to the Soqe'. Brigadoon Lodge sits on some of the best water, and the trout average 6lbs!! They say that you should be able to hook up on a 14lber some time through the day, and 15-20 fish per day, per person is the norm. It has to be good for the prices they charge. I think they price a days fishing at $350 per person, per day. And, you have to double book. Only 12 anglers are allowed per day. The upper Chatahoochi in Northern Georgia is a beautiful stream with a good population of nice sized rainbows, and a few browns mixed in as well. Michigan was already covered, so I won't cover that. The upper Mississippi has some of the best smallmouth fishing on the planet. One hundred fish days are common, and the smallmouth regularly get up to 6lbs. I guess the Mississippi is on the line. Does that count? The question was EAST of the Mississippi, but nothing was said about north or south. With that, You could cover most of S.E, Canada. Quebec, and Labrador have some moster brook trout, and Atlantic Salmon. Unmatched scenery, and gin clear water...ok, I'll leave some for other people to cover.... pennscreekrules 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2005 QUOTE (skunked @ Feb 15 2005, 10:39 AM) Taking into consideration, fish population, fish size, hatches, scenery, etc. Obviously for me it's Penns Creek. Wild trout, great hatches surrounded by Penns Woods. Only way in is by dirt road. Beautiful trout stream.
