Bruce M 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2016 The only thing I'm taking from an eagle is his picture, this one stayed still long enough for me to shoot on my favorite trout stream. https://www.flickr.com/gp/138405714@N03/3WB5v4
Tooldummy 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2016 Wow! Had no idea! I live in Central Illinois and they migrate through here by the thousands. The same as snow geese. I've seen 200 acre fields so full of snow geese that it actually looked like snow. The seagulls aren't as plentiful, but I didn't know they were protected. DrVette 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2016 In Colorado the fish and game guys have gotten so anal-retentive as to give you large fines if you keep anything from the animal your car hit when it jumped into it (depends on who's side of the story you are on). Anything on the road side these days is almost felony status (yeah I exaggerate, BUT only a little).
troutguy 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2016 I was walking the wife's Bichon Frise in the backyard when a larger bird dropped down. I live near a large lake. The bird seemed like it was going after the Bichon, but it seemed disoriented or injured. I grabbed a wheel barrow and put it over the bird. I got welding gloves and a dog crate and grabbed the osprey and put it inside the crate, What kind of flies is it good for? OK do you see the talons and what it did to a Labrador Retrieve sized dog crate. The spread of the talons is over four inches
troutguy 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2016 No I didn't tie flies with it. I turned it over to the Raptor Center. The bird was a juvenile Osprey migrating through. It was dehydrated and had not eaten recently. The people at the Raptor Center were surprised to see someone put an osprey in a dog crate without visiting the emergency room too. In South Carolina you can pick up roadkill if it is legal to possess it if you were a hunter. No song birds or birds of prey or protected animals. Gene L 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2016 My daughter found a Great Blue Heron that had been hit by a car. She said it was difficult to get it in her car because it pecked her and had a huge wingspan. I think she wrapped in a blanket for self-defense. She took it to a bird rescue guy, getting pecked all the way. But she found out later the bird died. mikechell 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2016 Sorry ... Gene ... I was laughing before I read the whole line. Here's pretty much where I lost it ... My daughter found a Great Blue Heron that had been hit by a car. She said it was difficult to get it in her car because it ... My mind immediately went to ... "... wasn't dead and she was trying to kill it and stuff it in the trunk at the same time." "She's a good daughter and knew I'd love the feathers." Glad to finally read that she tried to help it, instead.

Fishywood 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2016 Anyone remember the movie Tommy boy? Chris Farley and David spade started in the movie. Anyways at one point they hit a deer place it in the car with him. Then down the road the buck awakens. Wasn't an academy award winner but it was funny especially when I was in high school. After the sea gull feather grab might have to find some from the imported geese from the north. JK

mikechell 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2016 I would not live in Maine, because it's just too cold during the winter (9 months of the year?). But now I have another reason to not live there.
