Dave G. 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2016 FWIW I bought a new full crest for $8 and a full fan of tippets for about the same , just recently ( in the last year). I finally decimated my old stock. I have pheasant crest and tippets to last the rest of my life, in fact tying for both my wife and I and if my sons happen to want to use a little here and there I probably won't use it all up.. Adam Saarinen 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2016 Could be the guy sold anything of real value first & the thrift store is the only one to make a profit?
JSzymczyk 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2016 Could be the guy sold anything of real value first & the thrift store is the only one to make a profit? That's what I'm thinking. No vises, scissors, tools?
Bruce M 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2016 I like the new old stock Mustad hooks, quite the collection you got there.
DrVette 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2016 I might be interested in ALL of the feathers. No fur, yarn, hair, hooks , boxes or storage containers. Just the feathers(all feathers and necks, capes or saddles)...What is your offer for just that?
vicrider 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2016 I would probably give a grand for just what's shown so $75 for a decent appraisal is not bad. The capes in this shot may not be genetic engineered but look good and if quality is there and there are sufficient smaller hackles and not just 10s and 12s like some older capes than that table along could easily piece out over $300. And he's said this is only a sample of what he has. You guys can sure come on like Drake members at times and when a person has questions about fly tying materials where else do you go but a tying forum? Fortunately, after a rather short and incomplete intro he has come on to give us what we need to try to help him and the value of his items is definitely there. Like I said, I'd put a grand into what's shown in a minute and feel like I made a deal that would piecemeal me a profit except that I'm a hoarder and would probably not sell any of it. JSzymczyk 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2016 wow $1K ? If I was JackOC I would take that offer in a heartbeat. Half a heartbeat, really. I was the first to respond and it was a bit direct. A member's very first post being one asking for help making them money is strange form. Two sentences of explanation would have given a very different first impression. In my opinion, the minimum-post rule set up by the founders of the site, before use of the "for sale" forum is a very fair and good thing. Become a member of the community first. In hindsight it's not my place. I'm not a mod or an owner, I'm just a guest here. Looks as if I need to put a few boxes of "old" Mustad fly hooks on the trading floor! Poopdeck 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2016 A grand!!! For chicken feathers, yarn, hooks, and capes of unknown origin regardless of a subjective grading. I must be missing something.
vicrider 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2016 I have twice typed an explanation and lost it before my morning coffee. Went back before posting. I won't do it again but will just say I can never order chicken feathers, yarn dubbing, and hooks without it costing me a hundred dollars. I did specify in my post "IF THE QUALITY IS THERE". If it is the capes only are worth $25 on up and the amount of hooks, probably many of them classic, would cover a big piece of that qutoe. I stand by my value. Poopdeck 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2016 That's why you never type anything up until after you had your first cup of coffee. I like to go to auctions. I come across old hooks quite frequently in the box lots. If your not familiar with box lots you can usually get a box of stuff for under 10 bucks and as little as a dollar. I guess I'm gonna have to lay out a couple dollars and start snatching them up.
DrVette 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2016 Never mind... A Grand??? Are you serious? I doubt the entire load is worth that and I was looking to cut shipping costs...
johnnyquahog 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2016 If the seller here gets an offer of $1,000 for all the goodies posted so far then he should jump on it (and do the "snoopy dance") and even subtract the $75 he was quoted for an appraisal. It would more than make up for the crappy welcome he got here. Good luck.
