McFlyLures 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2016 The duncan loop (also called grinner knot) is a great knot for attaching flies or fishing lures to your monofilament or fluorocarbon line when you want more movement. The loop this knot creates really helps the hook or lure move freely and act more natural in the water. This is also a very strong knot. Difficulty: Medium Time: Fast Strength: High Usefulness: Attaching lures or flies to your line with a loop. Music: Ukulele - Bensound.com

NohackleHS 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2016 I agree that the Duncan loop is quite a strong knot. The only problem I've had with the knot is that when you use a heavily weighted fly the loop can close even when just casting and this eliminates the advantage of a loop knot. Actually, on non-compressible line like mono or fluorocarbon, the Duncan "loop" is basically a "noose". I've seen it touted as a loop, but the first strong tug will slide it all the way shut. The perfection loop is about as strong, won't pull down, is easier to tie, uses less line. It also doesn't curl the line, like a Duncan "loop" can when you pull it down into position. Yes on a good pull a Duncan loop can slip if you don't tie it correctly, or have strong enough fingers to tighten the knot good enough. ;-p. Haha. I personally haven't had it curl, but I'm sure it does happen if you tighten too much before moving to position.
FlatsRoamer 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2016 Some pliers could easily solve the weak fingers problem

skeet3t 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2016 My complements on a great looking video. Using the large ring and heavy cord makes it easy to follow the steps. There is a website that I think has been mentioned before. It has just about every knot that you would need for any situation or activity. www.animatedknots.com You might look at the perfection loop. I don't think it would slip under stress.
