Fly Tying

How many spools of thread do you own?

Recommended Posts

Just counted mine. There seems to be 40 but there's about four doubles. I tie trout flies, bass flies, saltwater flies, saltwater teasers and bucktails from an 1/8 once up to 6 ounces. If I were to tie just one fishing style I could use less then ten since thread is more of a preference then a integral part of a fly recipe.

Well I don't know how many I have, but apparently not enough. Its cicada pattern time and I was just looking for UTC 140 orange. none...

I have a sewing rack that has about 40 pegs on it and two spools per peg. Its full and I have about 10 more in a drawer. This is including all the wire spools also.

...but no 140 orange

I had to count. I have 76. Tied at a show several years ago here we were given gift bags from a supplier.

Many folks did not want to use the thread that was included. I took it so I don't have to buy for a while yet.

Just don't go there! I've maybe 150 open spools, but whenever I can I buy them by the dozen. I'd say for half the number of spools I have open, I've anything from 1 to 12 full spools. Some of those "spools" are 15 000 meter spools. Living here things like thread have to come mail order. I don't want to run out of a thread part way through an order.

Cheers,

C.
