Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2016 This is the last rod before we shut down for the month of July. A very nice little Irish Themed 6'6" 3wt fiberglass with a great feel and nice light weight. This one will be a pure joy to fish on smaller streams for the new owner. Light maple seat with a hand turned grip with green accents, four legged classic style stripper, green main wraps and metallic gold trim with full spiral over wraps. spm 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2016 Very nice, Steve. The green and gold wraps really set off the nude blank. I assume you're headed for your annual trip. Good luck and stay safe. steve
Dave G. 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2016 Nice stream rod for sure !
mikechell 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2016 Wow! That's a "new" color rod (or lack of color rod), from you, Steve. Or, at least, I don't remember seeing it before. Looks really good with the green wraps.
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2016 Yeah I'm trying to remember if I have ever done a white blank before and I don't think I have. I like the looks of it quite well, might play around with some others this color when I get back from the trip.
mikechell 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2016 You know what colors would look good on that bla ... ah, never mind. I think I am becoming too predictable.

FlaFly 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2016 I think Mike was aiming at red and blue. actually I would like black and blue...call the rod "Fats Waller"
rstaight 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2016 Nice work again. That will be a pure joy on a small stream catching brookies or small browns. Even be a blast on a small pond popping bluegill.
Trampus 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2016 Nice rod Steve! I have owned several 'white glass rods' over the years but they were Saltwater rods....the look is classic. I noticed you used different guides on this rod...do you not use snake guides on your rods or was this one special?
vicente 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2016 I think the single foot guides don't interfere as much with the flex of the rod in lighter weights.
rstaight 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2016 I prefer single foot guides. Don't know if I read it or if I thought it up all on my own. I have this thought that the extra wraps somehow stiffens the action of the rod. Don't know if I'm wright but somehow I got the notion.
mikechell 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2016 Steve made me a 5'6" 3/4 weight with Minima Guides. I don't know if it's the guides, but that little rod shoots line better than any of my snake guide rods.
Chris_NH 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2016 Nice looking rod. I find the minimas shoot line better for me too on the ones I've built. I think it's because the line is isolated from the blank, unlike regular snake guides where the line can slap the blank on the way through.
