McFlyLures 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2016 The Krystal Flash Midge Emerger is one of the more simple emerger patterns for trout. This midge emerger is really effective despite using only 3 materials. Krystal flash, thread and wire. Tied like a zebra midge, but with an emerging wing. These are one of my favorite midge flies for picky trout in rivers. Its so easy to tie, I can make up 20 of them, and don't mind too much if I loose some due to small tippet. Hook: Umpqua U202 (or any scud hook size 14-32)Thread: Ultra thread 70 denier (black, red, cream, olive, and brown are common)Ribbing: Ultra wire x-small (gold or silver are common)Watch the video below, or click over to my website to watch the video where there is more information. http://www.mcflyangler.com/freshwater/nymphs/krystal-flash-midge-emerger

I love fishing zebras. You get more views with more vids... Just FYI. Yes they are basically the same fly, just one has KF for a wing. My vids usually take 7-10 hours to make, I did kill 2 birds with one stone and made both of the videos in 10 hours. Lol. Made my life easier. If you noticed, this is the first video I posted earlier than 2-3AM... It was nice getting to bed by 12AM last night.
McFlyLures 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2016 Nice vid, catch any fish on it? I always catch fish on this pattern. Very effective. Especially the smaller size in the picture. I generally tie this in size 24 or 26 for the trout in my local river. They like the flies super tiny. And they eat midges all day long.

Getting views is part of the fun. The other part is tying the flies. I never said though I'm only doing this for the fun. I said it was a labor of love. Yes it's fun, yes I would do it if that was the only motivator, no it's not the only motivator. Omg how dare anyone try to get more views! That evil view getter McFly! Hahahahahaha. Your funny cheech! I'm all about that view count boss... However, if there were a channel that had separate videos for every variation of a zebra midge I wouldn't watch them all. I'd just see a picture and see "oh, he added flash this time" or "oh, he tied it in brown this time" and "oh, he used a tungsten bead this time" and "oh, he used blue wire this time." Also, a Zebra Midge video shouldn't take 5 hours to make. Maybe 5 minutes to film, 10 minutes to drop in the intro that is already pre done, and an hour at most recording and editing voiceover. Also, regarding views etc, there is no harm in admitting that you would like to eventually turn a profit from a video channel. Some guys can actually make a living finding a way to use "views" and turning them into "dollars."

Some guys can actually make a living finding a way to use "views" and turning them into "dollars." Yes it would be nice to turn a profit, I never said i didn't want too. I have ads on my videos so obviously I'd like to. I haven't yet though. But soon I'll hit the Adsense thresh hold and they will send me my first check. It will be small though. My internet is slow and it takes 2 hours just to upload, then I have to put the vids on my website. The videos take 5-10 minutes to video, but the editing takes a good 1-3 hours. I do voice overs, ad music, and am careful with editing. I don't just throw up a video with me talking into the camera. When I did that, videos were only 20 Minutes total to video and edit combined. Now I try to make quality videos, but it takes a while. I have 52 videos made already. To keep making some, I'm bound to make some similar flies. Same could be said about any of the main fly video makers on YouTube. Even Davey McFale (I don't know how to spell his last name) makes some flies that are similar and only separated by the colors of the materials. It's the nature of the craft. Small differences give results, and change the fly enough to get the fish to bite. Don't watch the ones that don't help you, or you already watched one similar. You are a seasoned tier, most tying vids aren't to teach you anything anyway. Especially a zebra midge varient. I know these two flies don't teach seasoned tiers, but the newby tiers could benefit from this.
McFlyLures 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2016 Btw, I'm not upset at all, just FYI. Just commenting back. Sometimes when I state my opinion people here think I'm upset or trying to argue. I'm really not. All the best to you cheech.
