Found this on Tom Sutcliffe's site. A neat, simple, old school fly; made a few substitutions to the original materials but nothing major. Not sure if he just uses plain raffia for the wing; I backed the Swiss Straw I used with Scotch tape - made it easy to fold/crease it.

hook -Dai Riki 300 #10

thread - UTC 140. Tan

abdomen/head - Zelon dubbing hydropsyche

under underwing - Krystal Flash root beer

underwing - Swiss Straw rust

semi-bullethead/wing - deer hair

legs - medium rubber corn snake

indicator - 1mm foam orange

mash barb, start thread, tie in at 2/3 mark and wrap to the eye

clean, stack, measure (2x shank) a clump of deer hair

trim to length, align butts with 2/3 mark

switch hands, tie in with 2 soft loops, pull thread tight but don't allow it to spin; trim buts

Well done SBS, as always.

Does the Scotch tape hold onto the raffia after it gets wet? I didn't think it was water proof in that way.

Anyway, great looking pattern.

Mike,

Unknown; I'll try it out in a couple days and let you know.

Scott
