How It's Made: Regal Fly Tying Vise

Recommended Posts

Unless I'm mistaken...

midge jaws = no groove

stainless jaws = no groove

standard jaws = single groove

big game jaws = two grooves, though older models have three

I think mine are the standard, which goes along with the one notch/groove.

I don't remember having so many choices 10-12 years ago.

I have a standard and a stainless.

The stainless is a little over a year old and does not have a groove.

The standard was replaced last year because my old set from about ten years ago had chipped. The old jaws had a groove as does the new replacement set.

The website now makes no mention of a groove on the std jaws (and the photo doesn't depict one), so that makes sense. Regal may have gotten wind of Joel's opinion on jaws that rely on grooves for hook holding. It IS odd that Regal would make this change after so many years.

My Regal has 1 groove in the standard jaws, it is about 20 years old, I bought a set of midge jaws 5 years ago and it doesn't have the groove. Most of my streamers are size 6 & 8 and I dont' seat the hook in the groove
