Joshpilon08 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2016 Most of my flies this far have been tied on hooks, so I was wondering who ties tube flies and if anyone had any "beginner" patterns, advice etc.

Piker20 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2016 If you decide to tie on tubes, to start with stick to one make/brand. Makes it easier. For running water look at bucktail tied around the tube. Google Willie Gunn In still water look at the temple dog type which will move more water due to the shoulder.

eastern fly 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2016 I love tubes. They work well for trout and bass. As far as materials consider starting with generic "Q Tips" they work well and I have used many of them, and their cheap. Kevin
FKROW 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2016 Check out the web site for HMH Vises,,, the page on Tube Fly Gear has an extensive section on tools an supplies. They also have a blog under Tiers Bench heading with videos and instructions on tube flies. The owner John Albright, did a demo with student participation at my local fly shop and it was very instructive. He specialized in tube flies for trout and smallmouth.
