Piker20 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2016 I've been using the very fine veevus thread a while now. Has anyone else found that most spools are useless past half way down? I've found on 8 spools so far, black and clear that the thread is knotted or wrapped beneath itself once you have gone around 50% down the spool. Maybe its just been me that's unlucky. If it seems to be a common issue I will look to go back to my old thread options.
Adam Saarinen 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2016 Sounds unusual for veevus, could just be the 30d that i have no experience with!? Gone through whole spools of veevus 10/0 & 12/0 in black with no problem! Years ago all spools of 8/0 uni in black were stuffed in my local shop, that could have been a bad batch too!? Piker20 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2016 Yeah, I've had no issue with the 10/0. May just switch back.
Bugsy 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2016 I have Veevus 30d GSP, which is the only 30d product I thought Veevus marketed. But you speak of "black and clear," while the GSP is only white. Could this be their mono product?
Piker20 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2016 It is a fine multi filament thread and it does only come in clear. The black was a 14/0 spool.
FIN-ITE 34 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2016 I have multiple spools of 16/0, 100D & 30D and I have had absolutely no problems with any of them. As far s I am concerned the 16/0 is the strongest thread I have ever used in that type/size. The 100D I use for pike flies and spinning deer hair, works great. The 30D I am using for things like size 22 and smaller flies such as tricos and midges, again works great.
Piker20 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2016 I've been happy with the first 50% of the spools but not enough to justify throwing away the half spools and waste money.
cheech 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2016 They had some issues with the makeup of their 30D threads, so they came out with 50D (which is both black and white.) I have had the same issue that the OP has had with the 30D, so I switched to 50D and it's much better. Not really much thicker thread without the issues. vicrider 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2016 I have a few of those spool but haven't taken them down far enough yet. I love every Veesus thread I've got, and I've got a lot. Strongest on market IMO. I use the 17/0 for tiny stuff and it's great. Much stronger than the Spiderweb I've used. The only thread I've really not liked so far is Sheer and that's because I can never get a spool started right. Same problem Piker 20 has with Veesus. I liked Sheer but aggravation was not worth it. Adam Saarinen 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2016 I had some little problem with sheer, but can't remember what it was, been a while! Been using 16/0 veevus for a while in a lot of colours & had no trouble at all with c&f bobbins!
retrocarp 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2016 I had a similar problem with semperfli nano silk I purchased 10 spools 3 of which were useless
