Fly Tying Desk Design

Recommended Posts

I am looking at building something similar myself. I would not put drawers overhead like that, I don't think its good design to have to stand up to peer in a drawer.

Otherwise mine will have cabinet space on the floor at least on one side. Large to put the saddles/capes in.

the mirrors are so he can see the tv on the other wall. Also prevents armed thugs from sneaking up on him.

... I don't think its good design to have to stand up to peer in a drawer.

If the drawers are small, and you know what's in them, you wouldn't be standing to peer in there. You would just pull the drawer out and bring it down to access the material.

But I know what you're speaking of ... as few people actually remember everything that ends up in a drawer.

Going back to TedderX's original post. The c-clamp makes the middle drawer useless while tying. If you are able, make it narrower and put your waste disposal hole over it. Then you will only need to open it at the end of a tying session. Also the open space under the top cupboard is not used very well. I'd be tempted to put doors on that as well. On the inside of the doors you could have small shelves for spool storage. That would also help with hiding everything away, which I know from previous experience, can be a good thing for your "significant other".

Cheers,

C.
