L. B. Fly Tyer 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2016 Today I tried tying a weed guard using bucktail. I had already tried using 17 pound mono but it di not work. I going to try tying a clouser with a weed guard for the ponds near my house full of lily pads.
JSzymczyk 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2016 I use either a piece of high E string from a broken guitar string, or a piece of #02 stainless single strand (27lb) leader wire. Works as well as anything. On deer hair bugs I like to use a loop of Mason hard mono 30lb or so.
tidewaterfly 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2016 I also use wire in various sizes or 30 lb Hard Mason nylon. IMO, 17 lb is too light, particularly a regular mono. They're usually way too soft. Let us know how the bucktail works.
