Kudu 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2016 FB The gun is junk. I owned one and sent it back to Remington. I got my money back. The mossberg ulti mag is much better which I do own. I wanted another gun like the ultimag as it has a turkey scope on it. I needed the gun to be able to be abused. I ended up getting a Benelli. Both the Benelli and the ultimag can shoot 3.5, 3" and the std 2.75 shells.
JSzymczyk 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2016 I've killed a few turkeys with a fixed modified choke 12 ga... Just saying. Buy what you want and obviously there are niche markets- but to say a fixed mod choke 12ga is "not good at all for turkeys" is not a true statement. Kudu 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2016 Remington sent mine to a gunsmith they use in Minnesota. They wanted to repair a brand new gun that I had just taken out of the box. Didn't want to replace it. The action would fall out of it. I took it back to where I purchased it and was told there was numerous complaints on that gun. In turn, I said why didn't you tell me that when I bought it. Anyway, I got my money back and bought the Benelli.

Buy what you want and obviously there are niche markets- but to say a fixed mod choke 12ga is "not good at all for turkeys" is not a true statement. I know it can be done, I've done it. As well as with a fixed full choke .410. However a mod choke is far from ideal for killing turkeys any further than 25yds. It just does not simply put enough pellets on target based on the patterning I've shot. They make tight shooting turkey chokes for a reason.
mikechell 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2016 I hate "crunching" a pellet in a nice bite of wild game, of any kind. A wad of pellets taking the head off that bird is vastly preferable to a wide scattering of pellets peppering the body. There's also the old adage, "Proper tool for the job". Yes, you can shoot a lot of things with a fixed choke, but it's not the best way. Good luck with your choice, Fisherboy.
Fisherboy0301 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2016 Don't get me wrong I'm not saying I have to have a new gun to hunt this or that, I've been making do with my model 120 for 3 years but I can afford a new gun and want one, like wanting a new fly rod. Fisherboy0301 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2016 Well a gun that I hadn't thought about takes the cake. It's a Turkish made, 12ga pump, 3" chamber, screw in choke tubes, built a lot alike a Rem 870. It's an Escort Fieldhunter. Buddy had one, he got a browning Gold hunter ducks unlimited or something edition for Christmas, plus he has more than he knows what to do with already, so he sold me the Escort for $100. It's lightly used, with a variety of shells. He has no complaints and I like it. He just did an ugly dark camo spray paint job on it. I'll likely buy a mossy oak vinyl skin to put over it. I have one on my daddy's .410 I inherited after his death. It keeps the rust away and everything. So yay! I got a gun after all. I'll be picking it up sometime within the next couple months. I'll post pics of it. It's kinda ugly but a workhorse none the less.
mikechell 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2016 I hunting shotgun doesn't need to look pretty. Shouldn't, in fact, when you're hunting critters that will spook at the slightest glint of sunshine off a "pretty" barrel. Congrats on getting a proven gun for less money.
