Bimini15 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2017 Head and wing is all the same. I wanted to do a dubbing head, but had none in black, so I used what I had: black post material. It keeps its shape because I soaked in some Liquid Fusion and UV resin.
mikechell 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2017 Playing with the limited stuff I brought with me. I've never made weedguards before, so I went looking for stainless wire. Can't find any in the neighborhood shops, but I did get some picture hanging wire from Dollar Tree. I've always been amazed at the spinners and crap that obviously AREN'T mimicking life, but that get bites anyway. So I twisted some of the picture wire to make a strong enough weed guard. Figured it would add some flash, if nothing else. Looks like crap and probably won't guard anything. I'm just playing with ideas. Craft fur and flash tail, foam body and head, craft fur dubbing brush ribbing. And some more fishing flies fro my return to Florida. Kraken bugger. Craft fur tail, Kraken dubbing brush body, plastic bead chain eyes.
Powershooter 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2017 Mike have you tried using monofilament weed guards ? I've only used mono , never tried wire before .
mikechell 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2017 I tried mono ... But it feels too stiff to me. I am sure it would work, but I am wary that it would work TOO well and prevent a hook set. I know that's probably baloney, but it's a confidence killer. I like the thin stainless bails on bait hooks ... ... just can't find the wire to duplicate them. vicente 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2017 Guitar strings should work just fine for you, a new unwrapped one should only cost you a couple bucks.
mikechell 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2017 Forgot about those, Vicente. Thanks, I'll look for a music store tomorrow.

Both my guitars are due for a re-stringing. Glad to now have a use for the old strings!
