mikechell 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2017 Semantics, I think, is where we get lost on "cheap". If something is cheaply made, then it's crap and you get what you pay for. When we say we bought something for a cheap price, it's just become a lazy way of saying it was inexpensive.
Saltybum 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2017 Bottom line....shopping online can save you a lot of money for the same products no matter how you spell it.

Ed Gallop 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2017 Mike... I'm not debt free but will be in 5 years after my mortgage is paid off. I'm too damn old to create another mortgage by updating as I did in the past debt free days. I don't even buy green bananas these days. ;-) I will buy bulk if I suspect something I like may be outdated enough to stop production. Single edge blades are used in box cutters so will be around. Double edge is used only for shaving so I doubt they will be around forever. My son uses them to shave but also used a straight razor and brushed soap lather. He is the only person I know that does. I have bought food products, such as jam, in bulk if I like it. Many things are hard to find, such as Mars candy bars (my favorite) but will spoil if I bought bulk. Personally... I doubt double edge blades will be around 100 years from now. Even 20 years.

vicente 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2017 I also think the double edged razor blade will go away, unless made just for hobby or industry uses. My 105 blades showed up the Wilkinson Gillette blades also come individually wrapped in oiled paper so they should stay good for years to come.
Ed Gallop 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2017 If I'm still fly fishing in 20 years it'll be with a walker. I must have lost my post so I'll try again... If I'm still fishing in 2 years it likely will be with a walker. My doctor (fishing buddy) said my bone density test showed borderline osteoporosis and said I could break my hip wading slippery rivers. I said I'd likely drown so wouldn't care. Hmmm... Poor thinking. I am now taking a pill a week and taking my wading stick with me. Not that I want to live forever.
johnnyquahog 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2017 I wonder if you guys thinking that the double edge razor blade will soon become extinct are considering where they are being manufactured and that the US population is roughly 5% of the total pop. Some Wilkinson Gillette blades are from India. Is there a Harry's or Buck a Blade (yen a blade) in most countries. I'm betting they will be around a few more generations but hey, I think I made an error two weeks ago ... but that could of been a mistake. think Global, act local. DrLogik 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2017 I have yet to find a sharper higher quality blade than the Feather at anywhere near the price. They are priced near to "cheap", read lesser quality blades. These blades are revered among the double-edge razor crowd too. Merkur's are more expensive but are not better quality or sharper. If we're talking shaving deer hair flies, Feather blades would be a great choice. I correct my last post. The stack of blades I got on Amazon were 20 packs of 5 blades. These are fine blades made in Japan not China. Oh, and on the question are double-edged razors going the way of the Dodo Bird. Not a chance. My 19 year old came home from college at Christmas and specifically asked me for a good double-edged razor for Christmas. I said, "Really???". He said yeah, and said he shaved with mine yesterday and it shaved closer than his fancy multi-blade razor. I laughed and said that blade is well over a week old to! He said a few guys at school have them too. Said they are kinda gaining in popularity BECAUSE they are somewhat archaic. I got him a nice Merkur razor a few boxes of Feather blades. j8000 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2017 Well, this post helped me. I've been using the same razor blade for awhile. It got so bad I'd just use scissors to trim up the head area leaving more stubs. After reading this I got a new blade and realize that for 100 blades for $10, there should be no reason to use a dull blade. Nothing cuts better than a new sharp razor. Thanks.
