Fly Tying

(No fly zone) Non fly caught fish pictures

Recommended Posts

Spent my last vacation day of the year by spending about 11 hours in the boat. Did a little bit of everything from drifting minnows, to rod and reel, to fly fishing, then minnows at night.

As the bats whipped around my head and odd creatures appeared in the night waters. I was kept busy watching bobbers bob, and keeping an eye on the glowing eyes in the distance.

A few pics from the last couple weeks. It had been since new years when I last had the boat out. Of course the 3 days I went were all post frontal with temps in the 40s and wind 20-25. Then mid work week would be upper 80s.

Caught some bass the first day before crappie fishing. Caught 25 speck and all of them were either tiny, or just under the 10 min. Took a neat pic of a bat under a bridge.

Then prefished for our annual big bass tourney. Found a spot sheltered from the wind with clean water. Only could manage weighing in a 2.7lb at the tourney, which was good enough for 14th. Thats how hard of a day it was for everyone. Oh and they paid up to 13th.

The day after, I went bank fishing and landed 2 that would have been in the top 3 or won.

Finally, last night was my first outing targeting snook since the season opened on the 1st. Success! A 30 incher.

This morning was the kids tournament. Son caught a cichlids. Didnt win, but everyone got rod and reels and a medal. Good times!

Bat's are one animal I find weird, because they can be oddly cute and yet creepy both at the same time mellow.png

Do mice think bats are angels?

Its awesome when you leave the house at 10, telling the wife youll be home before midnight, then walk back in the door at 10:30 to get some ziplock bags!

Hog of a Snook, Calossa! Nice fish!

Too bad a great catch like that ruins a whole night of fishing, though.

If I'm keeping fish, I always hope for a bunch of "too smalls" early, then keepers later.

Thanks Mike, I wouldnt say it ruined the night. I could have stayed and caught more, but Id rather not hassle them by giving them a sore lip. They might be the one I catch tonight.

I caught one Thursday, then spent about 10 hours total this weekend without a bite. So, to get one quick, then home to bed at a decent hour wasnt too bad of a deal. Plus the fact that I live a mile and a half from my snook spot, means that I dont have much invested in the trip.

That's a nice snook. What'd you catch him on, live bait?

Thanks. A saltwater Rapala x-rap. SXR 12 in “blue sardine” color

The first of this Non-native  species that I’ve seen in my home water. A Jaguar cichlid.
