DManley 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2017 Sorry about starting all of the confusion. I was still planning on having my flies in well before the deadline, but it looks like we were tying to two different deadlines. If I am the only one who won't have their flies in by the end of June, I can do one of two things. I can send out the earlier flies a few days after the Fourth, or I can drop. (Sending before the fourth is really not an option right now.) If anybody else is still tying, then I won't be holding up the swap anyways, so I will just finish my flies and send them in two Weeks or so. I sure don't want to start out swapping on this board by being the last guy to mail in for a swap. I was a little surprised to read that some of you were sending in this early, but now I realize that we were on two different pages. Either way, I'm glad that I jumped into this swap, as it has been a neat kickstart for my tying. I knew it was going to be a bit of a challenge when I joined, but I was pretty sure I could do it. vicrider. No worries! I completely agree with what you said. I hate rushing to finish, paying $24.00 for overnight express delivery and then waiting a Month because somebody else couldn't get their act together. If I ever can't make a deadline, I would drop out as soon as I realized I couldn't make it. If we are all going with the early deadline, let me know what you want me to do. If some others are still tying, then I will just shoot for the middle of the Month. Thanks, all and I hope I haven't just ruffled a bunch of feathers. GP flyfisherman 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2017 Thanks BB, I really enjoy tying this pattern it was not that difficult after a few attempts. It's a very nice wing that floats beautifully and I'm sure everyone will agree. Thanks for hosting, you are a true gentleman. GP
breambuster 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2017 DManley, you will definitely NOT be the only one to not have flies in by the end of June. There are only 2 days left and only 1 set out of ALL the sets in the swap have arrived so far. There will definitely be other sets that won't be here until over into July and that is for certain. Go ahead and shoot for the middle of July. The deadline isn't until July 31st so you're good. I will continue to update everyone on the progress of the swap. DManley, since this is your first swap, I need to tell you that you can look at the very 1st thread in this thread, which has the roster of all the swappers, and when someone's set of flies reaches me, I will put the word "Received" beside their name. With everything going on in my life right now, I may not get it done immediately after the flies arrive, but I'll make every effort to get it done in a timely manner. If you look at that roster, right now, while I'm typing you will see the word "Received" only beside GP Flyfisherman's name because his is the only set that has reached me so far. You can look at that roster at any time and have a pretty good idea of how many sets are still out. GP, thanks for your comments. I try to be positive and more than fair with others, but that "G" word that you used is a tall order in my estimation. Take care BB
vicente 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2017 Nope I'll be much closer to the second deadline, got me scared for a second.
dflanagan 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2017 Mine will be done in mid-July. Thought I would have them in earlier but things haven't worked out. Tied a couple dozen parachutes as practice, got 10 tied up for the swap, and now my feathers don't want to cooperate. Twist, turn upside down, break... They'll be on time, though. Just gotta figure out what I'm doing wrong. Such a simple pattern and it's killing me.
breambuster 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2017 Vicrider, the teensy, tiny fly tying specialist got his flies to me today and they aren't teensy tiny. What happened Vic? Seriously they are a very nice tie. I'm going to try the extended body one of these days. I went to Wally World and found some needles that in a half circle. I have seen them called "Sail-Makers Needles" or "Canvas Needles." I think they will make a nice curved extended body. As I said, I'll have to try that ONE of these days. OK, have 2 sets in our of, what, about 14. Keep working steadily, fellows, and get your flies to me when you can. Take care BB
breambuster 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2017 I humbly beg your pardon. I stand corrected. Hadn't looked in so long I forgot how many swappers we have. There are actually 15 of us in this thing. OK, so keep working steadily, BUT with a purpose. And get them in the mail fairly soon. Take care BB
vicrider 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2017 Except for articulated flies like my Hog Snares I've done for a couple of swaps those were my biggest fly I've tied for a swap. On my desk I have a few flies like Royal Coachman, Adams, and I'm going to do a Virginia Wullf soon. They are tied to proportion on size 6/0 salmon hooks but seriously doubt they'd float like a dry fly. I have plans to do several on those hooks and maybe do a shadow box for them. breambuster 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2017 OK, Guys, things are getting busy here, again, and I'm a bit behind. Two new sets arrived yesterday and I'm only now getting around to acknowledging them. First, we have Woodenleg's Royal Wulff. VERY nice set of these. You're going to like them. And the second set is from Idaho RC. Idaho, you could tie this set until doomsday and I don't see how you could have improved on them any further. Guys, this is an extended body fly that uses a feather for the extended body. The body and tail are exquisite and the snowshoe hare wing is very neatly done. Both of these sets are "Shadow Box Material." Thanks to both of you. BB

breambuster 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2017 Hey Guys, Dflanagan's Parachute Adams flies arrived a couple of days ago and I'm just now getting around to acknowledging them. The flies are excellent! You'll all be happy to add this one to your fishing box for sure. Very nicely done. They look like he's been tying them all his life and not like they were EVER his greatest nightmare. Great work, Dflanagan. Take care BB
