Another Customer Service Thread. Want to bet?

Recommended Posts

It's 2017 a big part of commerce is done on the internet. Those Mom & Pop stores get a lot of their products over seas these days and don't supply that good customer service you use to find back 20-30 yrs ago. If you feel you are somehow getting better service by buying other places than online then more power to you, but do not insult or call anyone names for choosing to buy online. We do not allow that sort of behavior here.

My daughter works in H.R. for a very large internet company. Apparently the latest idea being tosssed around is a brick and mortar store where you can examine the product, try it on it on, and then place your order and it will be shipped to your address. Maybe a happy medium if it happens.

The thing that gets my goat a bit is that retail , at least a LOT of retail don't hire very many full time employees. I understand that this then reduces the businesses cost as they do not have to pay for benefits for thosepart time employees.

PD - how many of the 350000 amazon employees are full time? I'm just curious, not trying to be contentious. If the majority are full time, I say great - way to go amazon.

But I see so many local businesses have a large portion in part-time status. While they get some money in hand - the no benefits really hurts those folks.

Wish business was different, but it isn't.

BCT

I don't know the answer to that but I do know the inordinate amount of part time employment is the direct result of government interfering to much in the free market and of no fault of business owners big or small.

The loss of tax revenue from the loss of mom and pop stores is a fallacy. The loss of jobs is another fallacy as is the loss of customer service. Now we somehow lose expert advice with the loss of mom and pop shops. When does the silliness end? I say buy all your fly tying material on line. Your supporting more people, your generating more money for the tax man, your supporting all those who work in the mail industry, your getting a better fresher product, your spending less, you have more free time, your saving gas and wear and tear on your car and you can get anything and everything you could possibly need at the best possible price.

For the record I do support mom and pop shops in my community. Water ice, ice cream cones, pizza, tacos, hot roast beef, geromes sausage, haircuts, car repairs and lawn services all come to mind. A fly shop? Nope since they fill almost a nonexistent void in my life with their limited inventory and high prices. I'm happy to change with the times.

Sorry for derailing the derailing of my own thread, but ...

... but I do know the inordinate amount of part time employment is the direct result of government interfering to much in the free market and of no fault of business owners big or small.

In my foreign view, it is the direct result of business not willing or being able to bear the extra cost of full time employment and other benefits. Here and everywhere.

By the way, I have not heard back from Sperry, going on 40+ hours...

Flyty1,

Get used to it, in the next 10 to 20 years there will be hardly be any retail stores you will do all your shopping online and you either go pick it up or it will be mailed or delivered to you it's the grand plan. They have been talking and planing this for at least 30 years that I know of

I will call anyone a dummy who won't stop and think about their actions...maybe you prefer sheep - since it is easier to go along with the heard than to have some backbone and act responsibly.

This is getting supremely humorous ...

It's "herd" ... not "heard" ... and I have no idea how you think buying online is somehow sheepish or whatever.

Buying local doesn't show "backbone", there's no bravery or strength involved ... nor does it demonstrate "responsibility" if you're wasting money.

You're arguments are less than convincing.

It's a direct result of one word, OBAMACARE.

I am not in a communist country so I value the choice of where and who I do business with. If I am not happy with a local shop, then I will do business with someone else. Nobody can or should tell me who I should do business with. Shame on those who do. My family has been ordering online or through the mail for generations. Online ordering or through the mail is nothing new. It has been around for over a hundred years. When I was a boy, I remember my parents buying many of things through catalogs and such. Even milk had been bypassed through the store and delivered to our house. The only difference between now and many years ago is that one does not have to keep many thick catalogs and the shipping time is a lot faster. Although I still enjoy flipping through certain catalogs.

If it were all Obamacare it would be an American issue only.

Back to the original topic, I am a little disappointed that I have not received even an automated response from Sperry in almost three days.

Amazon is a large employer of quality full time jobs in North Carolina. Walmart suck weasel turds off the side of the road. One Charlotte store Jesse Brown's is horrendously poor. I stopped shopping there due to high prices and rudeness ten years ago.

Sorry to hear you're still not getting a response, Bimini. It happens. Live long enough and every once in a while, you're bound to have a bad experience.

Us Americans don't have the insanely high taxes and subpar healthcare you fellas in the U.K. have. Can't offer free health care and then jack the income taxes up 20% so, to keep it free for an uniformed and mislead voting public, they lay it on the evil rich business owners who have no choice but to make massive cutbacks. It's common sense that when you need to make massive cutbacks you do it in big ticket budget areas like payroll.

People, we need to keep politics out of it.

No matter how subtle ... politics and religion always breed arguments. It's why they are two topics kept to a minimum in good sites like this one.

Poopdeck,

it's not so simple. It's not all businesses fault. It's not all government's fault. I see it on both sides of the pond.
