fshng2 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2017 You shouldn't loose the beads with the mono holding them. Also try some of that orange mesh (I thought that was neat stuff) over the beads like your first version instead of the egg yarn.
fshng2 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2017 Alevin Salmon Mop Inspired by Denduke's Pattern Alevine Body: pearl e-z braid and brown mop Egg Sac: orange mop Wing: olive marabou
Noahguide 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2017 Here is a free strung keel, 2 beads on mono, under the antron, per your suggestion. Not sure how the egg yarn will hold up but I'll fish it and see. Next will be with an olive zonker on top instead of buck tail.Alevin Salmon Mop Fshng2 very nice pattern. No salmon here in SC! You inspired me to try your pattern, no orange mop (only blue and green locally) tied it as a keel fly instead. Thanks for the great photos.Noahguide nice one.Great idea with the keel hook and weighted egg sac, what's the sac made with? Fshng2, Thanks. The sac is tubing from a dollar tree Halloween headband. Weight is two metal beads from the Wallyword bead section. Tubing is larger than most Mylar that I've used but performs in much the same way. Based on lessons learned from my keel frog bass fly, I now put a thin cost of UV resin over the mesh to keep from losing the beads after the first strike. Great finds..I'm always on the look out for material too. Just thinkin, could you string the beads on mono and secure mono at both ends to keep from loosing the beads? The mono makes getting and keeping the beads in place a breeze. Thanks for the tip.

Hazathor 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2017 Fshng2, I dig the Alevin mop. Good stuff! In that pattern, is almost the whole length of both mops adhered to the hook? Did you do that with thread wraps or an adhesive?

Did you do that with thread wraps or an adhesive? Thanks. Both the patterns on page 3 & 4 start with the sac tied in with mono. Then gel adhesive is applied to all but the last little bit for the remaining length. The brown body pattern starts with a very small dot of gel at the tail to keep it from spinning. Then the body is spiral wrapped with mono. FYI: Gel should be applied as thin as possible to prevent saturating the mop fiber. Try shooting for 1 to 1-1/4 for total length to best match the hatch. fshng2 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2017 My take on your ruby. Well see tomorrow! You should get some really great movement out of that tail. The flash in the e-z body and red on the gills is always a plus. Looks good should work. Thanks Noah and Mike. Mainard 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2017 I have and used blue, yellow , and chartreuse . Me and wife have caught several bluegill on all of them . I'm really wanting to get some grey ones but stil looking . I have purchased all mine at dollar stores , so I have a lot of material for $3 bucks . I'm thinking that the action they create are why they work . My wife fishes them under a bobber and I jig them . Both ways work .
Camp'n'fish 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2017 I saw several mop blankets at a bath and body works a couple of weeks ago. They were all neutral colors too. A lifetime supply for around 15 bucks.
Philly 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2017 Mainard, I picked up both of my gray ones up in auto supply sections. One is a mini-mop whose pieces work well on size 10 or 12 hooks and the other is a large whose pieces work well on size 6 and size 4 hooks.
