petegray 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2017 Some Water Buffalo have arrived... I'm hearing reports of some heavy weights in the teens and twenties... Clousers work but I'd rather drown my own phuzzie notions... and when they want something smaller...
wademan 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2017 Nice ties petegray. What size hooks are you using? tightlines wademan
petegray 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2017 Thank's Wademan... Mostly size #1... sometimes 1/0... Mustad Signature Series Tarpon or Big Game Light... The thin wire doesn't overwhelm smaller phlyz, small barb, and they have proven themselves sharp and durable... Lately I've been using Partridge Patriot Stinger Barbless in #1... Barbless... Less stress on a pierced victim... and I like 'em...
wademan 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2017 Petegray, Where are you getting those barbless hooks for use in saltwater? At present I am crushing the barbs down on all my hooks. Using hooks supplied by Allen, very sharp and strong. Thanx for the come back. Tightlines wademan
petegray 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2017 Where are you getting those barbless hooks for use in saltwater? Thanx for the come back. Tightlines wademan Call Sarah Wessels at the Bear's Den Fly Fishing Company and ask for the Partridge Patriot Stinger Barbless #1 PRO-PACK [not listed on line]... there's a big jump in price for the 1/0... Tell her, and / or Scott, I said howdy... If the Bear's Den doesn't have IT, you probably don't need IT, but they can get IT for YOU anyway...!!! wademan 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2017 Petegra: Great new ties. How do they cast? Much fouling? Thank-you for any info. tightlines wademan
Flat Rock native 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2017 Like that Big Bait, very good example of Phly Phrying. Talked to Bears Den today, pulled the trigger on some Bill's Bodi Braid and better plumage. The technique really "grows on you" once you get the basic steps lined out. Thinking the attention to detail carries over to thread winding patterns also. Inspiring examples here, thanks for post and always looking forward to next. ps. Had to phone Bears Den, Sarah was unavailable but still got GREAT assistance and advice.
petegray 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2017 re: fouling and current induced undulation that insinuates "life" and suggests the predatory notion to "eat me"... sometimes compromise can be a good thing... Over-lining, shortening the leader/tippet, and slowing down the casting stroke seems to help mitigate the fouling conundrum... rather than "strip strip strip", the current does the work as the phly slow dances on it's own accord... line goes tight and life is good... Onthebeach, I do enjoy the feel of a deeply loaded rod and a heavy line... and big fish too...! IMHO: the Bear's Den Fly Fishing Company is simply astounding and asgoodasitgets... and Shackleford Banks is pretty special too... wild horses onthebeach...
