Flat Rock native 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2017 Would have been good day to adopt a new "Release and Release" fishing policy. Just take one of those beautiful, Phlys, in about 2/0, do not tie it on, just dart it out there with your best throw and stick it and watch it go for a ride. Headline: Catch of the Day 79,000 lbs. petegray 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2017 Now Pete, be honest... Did you think of tossing a fly in its direction...? Not even for a fleeting nano second... Prior lifestyle training requires... Risk Assessment Analysis... What's in it for ME...? [not much] and What could possibly go WRONG...? [almost EVERYTHING] While we were having a proper Strange Encounter stare down... Did consider getting wet but quickly reverted back to the "what could go wrong" senario...

dflanagan 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2017 The whale videos are amazing. I hope to one day get my kids out to see this kind of stuff. I honestly can't think of anything more otherworldly than seeing large marine mammals leaving their world for a few fleeting minutes to visit ours. About your flies...I really like them and have even tied a couple to match some of them (and I can't wait to see if the bass like them) but I'm wondering about the technique you use. Is there a reason for the welding vs. tying the materials in? Something to do with the way the materials move when tied vs. just anchored with epoxy? petegray 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2017 Thank's Mr dflanagan... et al... If you get the chance, check out Gunnar Brammer on Facebook... He is knowledgeable and eloquent... Wise beyond his years, he has some excellent material management tutorials that are rich with solid information... with that said... I was an epoxy kind'a guy until the UV light went ON in my head and I've enthusiastically embraced Light Cured Acrylics ever since... Sort'a like epoxy, but the LCA's "cure on demand" and make "Phly Welding" a curious and viable option... Some purists may call it "blasphemy" [to each their own]... Welding works for me... allow me to create my phuzzie notions... As a rule, I tie in phur [fur] and buck tail with conventional thread techniques, and pheatherz as well, when thread is suitable... Once in position, welding in pheatherz helps eliminate the phrustrating "hackle roll"... On most of my phlyz, I'll encapsulate eyez with LCA to complete the head... [durable and effective]... and they have the look I'm shooting for... "Wrapped n' Welded" would indicate a combination of Tying AND Welding... "Welded Wide Body Tunnel Hull" involves Welding in phlank pheatherz and encapsulated eyez... Bueller...? Bueller...? ANYONE...?!
