November Flies from the Vise

Recommended Posts

Catgut Caddis Pupae

This is my first time tying this kind of fly. I think that this shall go through more evolution before it is complete.

Material list:

Underbody: Yellow thread.

Body: Squirrel fur dubbed on catgut.

Hackle: Sparse white partridge.

Hotspot: Yellow thread.

This fly could definitely have turned out better, but I think that it is a promising design.

Henry Denson ... there's another member, Lucian, who is one of the top notch tiers on this site.

He ties catgut caddis like yours.

The only difference I see is that the butt end of the body isn't tapered ... it just "ends".

Other than that ... yours is a good looking bug, and it looks great wet, too.

Thank you Mike Chell. I have seen and admired Lucians flies before. In fact, it is him that inspired me to buy catgut in the first place. While this fly is very similar to some of his, I expect it to become more unique as it continues to evolve. Thank you for pointing that out about the taper. I will have to try to incorporate some taper in future iterations.
