I love fishing that kind of stuff...I see that and Im all in it.

Your right unless you can turn them immediately you are going to loose some.

 

I use a 9 & 10wt with 16-25lb tippets with bend back flies like these..they go right through it.

To bring this back on topic, and kinda tie in to the tangent, these dragon tails could be a good substitute for a bass killer. The sluggo! I've had some pretty awesome days fishing Sluggo style soft plastic jerkbaits!

Nice flies, Mike. I had some great days using slug-gos. Mainly I fished 3 or 4 inch ones. Tried tying some up using tubing. I caught a fish or two on them but not enough to keep fishing them. I going have to pick up some and see what kind of slug-go I can come up with.

Rich mc is still having issues trying to log on. Until he gets back on here, I'm relaying some of his E-mails.

Basically he says that one good fish, short striking a dragon tail, will likely tear it off. He's got a material that is better than dragon tails.

I'm not going to steal his thunder, though. I'll give him a chance to get back online, first.

 

You can have it, Mike W. I see that cover and I'm "all up in it", too. But I have no need to try it with a fly rod. I'm good with other methods.

I'm looking forward to working up a few dragons for tarpon - but I have to admit that if last night is anything to go on they'll have to work really well to beat other established patterns. Last night we went four for seven with baby tarpon up to around 30lb on a 9wt locally in Biscayne Bay. Our last fish was the capper since we obviously picked on the wrong fish. It never jumped and just screamed off into the night so fast that we were nearly spooled with 200 yards of backing... During the beating we took it never jumped and we were chasing it just to keep line on the reel. After a few minutes it found something to run the line around and that was that - all on a small white feather pattern. Today I'll be loading new backing and a new fly line to set us up for tonight's trip....

Couple along that line but no D. Tails just craft fur/doll eyes....looks like black and purple best colors to order? I thought they were primarily eel imitations so tan/olive. Black/purple puzzling. Sounds like I need a few white flys too. Lotta great info on microskiff, got a bud that frequents that site he has a flats skiff and site fishes reds in La marsh.

They're a little heavy on the first trip back, but then they dry out at the directional change. I mostly just flip them short anyways, as I typically bass fish a small creek while floating on my paddle board and flipping bank to bank. When not saturated with water, they cast with no problem.
