Old Hat 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2018 Thanks Mike for another well run swap and the popper bodies and materials from the last couple swaps. I received my set from Ekucolonel17. Love it. A lot of great ties that I have not used before. Was going to try and tie some of those sheet foam poppers, now I have a great example to go off of. fshng2 - Glad you like the set. The hooks are Nickel Kahle saltwater hooks on those bend backs. I had fun tying the gold and black minnow pattern. It is a style I use for baitfish but I tried to copy a color scheme from my all time favorite bass lure when I was a kid, a Heddon Tiny Torpedo. I wouldn't go fishing as a kid if I didn't have one in the box.
Crackleback 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2018 Thanks Mike for not only hosting but also tying the set I received. I fish for smallmouth at least twice a week all summer so theyll get plenty of use. Hopefully I can get some pics of them in smallie mouths this week.

As soon as I can get these jerks at work to take me out to a private tank they have access to.

Crackleback 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2018 Got a couple good ones on my flies. First is a serious creek largemouth on your hair slider. Pretty rare to run into a largemouth this size on our Ozark creeks. Second is a a smallie on one of popper blanks you sent. The "Tag Team Popper" caught over half my fish on Tuesday. MuskyFlyGuy 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2018 I have participated in several swaps with Mike West as SM. Mike was very generous to us and shared some of his popper heads with us in the swaps. I finally got around to putting bodies on the heads and cannot wait to try them. Thanks Mike! Tom
vicrider 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2018 Okay, so I have some of Mike's popper heads also. I've just done like your upper right but really like the legs. Where did you get those from and I assume they're white and you magic markered them.
MuskyFlyGuy 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2018 Bought them from Pat Cohen at [email protected]
Mike West 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2018 I’m glad to see some of you guys finally putting some of my poppers to work. I actually thought about starting a thread asking people to show what you did with them. No exaggeration I guarantee you I’ve given at least 100 away in swaps as extras. i’ve seen maybe 4 to 6 people post what they’ve done with them . mikechell 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2018 A lot of people don't fish swap flies. I only did a couple of swaps, and the flies are on display boards in my tying area ... as guides in case I want to tie some of them.
flytire 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2018 All of the swap flies I receive get sorted and put into a sterilite plastic shoe box
chugbug27 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2018 I do fish my swap flies, sorry. I enjoy it tremendously.
vicrider 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2018 Yep, don't get to fish them often but they go right into the appropriate box and hope to fish them or pass them on to someone who will one day. Of course there are some, like my Nemo or some of the beautiful hair bugs from Mike and Crackleback and a few others I can't remember that hang from a wire across my tying desk to just look at when I need a fix. Dubs 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2018 Yep I fish the ones that seem appropriate for my fishing, some get set aside for a few reasons. One downside is if I lose a hot one I don't typically have more, don't remember exactly the composition, or who tied it to ask. I'll admit I haven't gotten to finish the popper heads but I plan to, and I will fish them. They are nicely done and I appreciate the effort that goes into all the swap flies I get.
