From the look of the fly in your link I think that's a brass bead in hot orange, not a plastic bead. I've been using big painted brass beads like that on my ESL variations for years.

I use these beads for my articulation points on my pike flies. They are plastic, so they won't add any weight unfortunately. The dimensions are measured as follows.

OD. 6mm (.236")

Hole Ø .063"
