fshng2 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2018 Another nice fly. I have always been intrigued by spey flies but never tied any. I would think the undulating long feather fibers should get a number of fishes attention. Have you ever effectively used these flies to target other species besides steelhead ,salmon? What synthetics are good substitutes for the long feather fibers?

I would think the undulating long feather fibers should get a number of fishes attention. Have you ever effectively used these flies to target other species besides steelhead ,salmon? What synthetics are good substitutes for the long feather fibers? Thank you , No, I have not tried them on other species but believe that the small spey flies certainly work on other species. I have always enjoyed spey flies and like the low sweeping profile, and they are fun to tie and beautiful flies try to tie some, and you can use marabou, schlappen hackle, ring.neck pheasant, blu eared pheasant etc. But if you tie on bigger hooks you need longer hackel like heron, blue eared pheasant (substitute) rhea (substitut) mm
