October Flies from the Vise

Recommended Posts

Headed to California in a couple of weeks. Should be able to spend a few days and a weekend on the San Joaguin River again.

Tied up some quick fishing flies in preparation.

If you're asking me, Chug, that's a good question ... and I don't think it's either. I'll be fishing south of Manteca ... downstream from the Stanislaus tributary.

Yes and my bad, you're on the main river and the forks are not even called east and west... They're just to the east of where you'll be.

That's "cute", Bruce. If you're into accuracy, the mouth should be trimmed to be open. Frogs shoot out the tongue with the mouth wide open.

JAN 31

CDL stem for the abdomen.
What's nice is that comes tapered along with the ribbing.
Can't duplicate that with wire.

Sicilian Gold

Hook - Salmon/steelhead style

Thread - Orange thread

Tip - Embossed tinsel

Tail - Red hackle fibers

Ribbing - Embossed tinsel

Body - Yellow floss or uni-stretch

Wing - Orange under white bucktail

Head - Orange thread

UV Resin

Reference - Steelhead Fly Fishing and Flies - Trey Combs &

Trout Flies Volume Two - Terry Hellekson

Tying note - The Trey Combs book has the tip/tail in reverse order while the Terry Hellekson book omits the white bucktail in the wing,

I tied the above fly usin the Trey Combs recipe and I reversed the tip/tail.
