Recommended Posts

Darrell,

Yes an 8wt most of my LMB fishing is done with 8 9 & 10 wts

Just because of all the vegetation where I fish not so much because of the size of the flies.

The package is labeled #83; quick interweb search says it’s Transparent Amber.

It's quite intimidating to post on a page that has the artwork of Eide, kimo, and SBP all in a row, but what the heck, here's my piece for the refrigerator. Working on classics, inspired by Eide's Traherne from earlier this month. And one after a swim.

Interesting design with the bead chain it should ride point up, I could've thought they'd put the long wing on the other side.

Richmc always gives me materials when I am up in Illinois. Rich, if you read this ... Please, no thank you this year. I've barely gotten into the stuff you've already given me. I don't do a lot of experimental tying.

HOWEVER, that being said, I did do some tying with the materials you've given me.

I tied up a bunch of size twelve caterpillar/wooly worms ...

And I tie up 6 satin flies ...

I'll see Rich again in March, most likely.

Richmc suggested I look at a pattern ... Dan Blanton's "Fatal Attraction". I looked, and it looks a little too "classical" for my taste.

BUT, to honor Rich's suggestion, I tried to tie one. I don't have the materials he calls out, so I had to adapt, using material Rich gave me.

Original recipe from DanBlanton.com: What I used:

Hook - size 8 through 2 Size 8 Aberdeen (Walmart)

Tail - Silver Flashabou Gold fibers from eyelash yarn. I have silver, but my water is coffee colored, so darker gold appealed to me.

Body - lead wraps with Pearlescent Diamond Braid No lead for mine ... shallow water angler. 6 strands of tinsel, furled to give the braid look.

Collar - hackle No hackle the right size, so I used one wrap of white eyelash yarn.

Underwing - Crystal Flash first with dark green bucktail on top. HEY! I have crystal flash, or at least FTD's version of it. Light green satin fibers.

Wing - peacock herl Dark green satin fibers.
