SilverCreek 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2019 Tactical or tactile? Tactile is "touch" ... tactical is basically planning, specifically, military planning. Tactical is the terminology used.
FIN-ITE 34 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2019 I tie all my jig patterns with the wing-case facing up in the normal position and here is why. http://www.tacticalflyfisher.com/blog/wingcases-shellbacks-and-wings-to-invert-or-not-to-invert-that-is-the-question/ And yes, that is the "Tactical" Fly Fisher. mikechell 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2019 Humph! A misused term that caught on. Like the non-existent "2 cycle" engine. It's a 2 stroke engine, with 6 events, completing ONE cycle.
chugbug27 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2019 To the fish it probably seems military enough...
SpokaneDude 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2019 Thanks everybody for your comments! I happen to be reading Devin Olsen's Tactical Fly Fishing now, and got the "official" answer! It doesn't get any better than that! Thanks Fin-Ite 34 for the URL... SD

tjm 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2019 You have to be in Europe to euro-nymph, as mikechell says " A misused term that caught on. Like the non-existent "2 cycle" engine." Truth as mentioned in the link above is that the trout only sees one aspect of the nymph as it it is swirled and bounced , therefore it makes no real difference whether you use sides and go super realistic or tie in the round, and if you use top&bottom views there is no way to know which the fish will see first. SilverCreek 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2019 Look at the bottle of UV resin Devin sells in his shop. Look familiar? http://www.tacticalflyfisher.com/tactical-fly-fisher-uv-fly-resin/ ] ]
Charlie P. (NY) 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2019 Well that changes my tactical nymph concept. Though reading through some of the attachments you can see why Jim Leisenring and Charlie Brooks liked "in-the-round" suggestive nymph patterns that looked the same from top/bottom and sides. sandflyx 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2019 regular bead heads will flip a fly to, especially when coating with a resin on the wing case. as tiers we throw the balance out of hooks when tying the way it is done now. only takes a minscule of weight on top to flip a hook.
