Chell's Snail (based on Henry Hoffman's pattern)

Recommended Posts

tjm, yep, every time I saw a picture of one it was on land laying eggs but apparently the big ones are an aquatic, invasive species from the Amazon introduced by people that had them in aquariums.

Man, I'd love to catch some of those big shell crushers on a snail pattern.

Let us know how you do Mike.

I've been trying to figure out what kind of cord is used to tie that "Henry Hoffman snail" ... it's NOT parachute cord.

It's boot laces.

And better yet Mike, you can get that kind at dollar tree!

Just an FYI ... the boot laces from Dollar Tree don't have the same kind of core as parachute cord. It's only two strands, woven together in such a way that, when you pull on the end, they just unravel. Like those easy open strings on some birdseed or pet food bags.

So, the snails I tied with that lace material, I had to add a step in to create the body of the snail.

I think my camera is at work, so I can't take pictures of them.

Mike, tied a few up with the boot laces. Added polar chenille as the under body. Taking them to the mountains in a few weeks. Well see how they work.

I tried fishing them today. Didn't get any hits. But I'm not blaming the snails ... I didn't get hits on anything else, either.
