SpokaneDude 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2019 I have a Minn Kota Endura trolling motor that I am going to mount on the rear of my Classic Accessories Wilderness inflatable pontoon boat. My question is: if I mount the transducer on top of the actual motor, is the prop wash going to affect the reading directly below the motor?
mikechell 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2019 People have had transducers mounted to trolling motors for decades. I'm not getting a clear understanding your question, though. 1) The transducer needs a clear shot to the bottom. If you mount it " ... on top of the actual motor ...", how can it be looking down? 2) Since the prop is behind the motor, the prop wash will be behind the transducer, too. 3) As far as I know, any major disturbance in the water will leave a "shadow" on the image. Air bubbles are completely opaque, and appear as solid objects on the image. So if the transducer is mounted so the prop wash is, indeed, between it and the bottom, you will get distorted images and readings.

Poopdeck 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2019 I've had a transducer on my trolling motor for decades. There is no problem with prop wash because, as Mike said, the prop wash is behind it.
