Aerie 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2005 OK, I'm new, so bear with me - And if this ends up being a real stupid question, or somehting covered elsewhere, I trust somebody'll tell me - I did poke around and didn't see anything... I have a kitty with great underfur - I've tied nymphs and stuff with this stuff for years - (A lot of recipes say 'fine fur' as a dubbing ingredient, so I figured what the hey). There's something just right about a fly tied with kitty fur catching fish, though if she had her druthers, they'd probably be salmon... She works fine in wets, but can this be done with dries? I'll try it and see if it impacts floatability, but I wondered if anybody else had tried? OK - Go ahead, laugh, let me have it - I can take it! Shaq 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2005 I didn't think cats liked the water I would try treating it with watershed to make it float better and it should work fine
Aerie 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2005 Yeah - or Duh! I should say - A good quality floatant should mak everything more or less equal.... Anyway, this one does, she haunts the hot tub on a regular basis... Eben
dontheo 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2005 I have always used the rule of where the animal lives. Beaver, Otter, etc = water = dry fly. Cats = no water = wet fly. Cats are good swimmers actually. But I think the fur soaks up water. My labs have an oily hollow fur and we vacuum every day. Good dry fly stuff. T
Aerie 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2005 You know, that's kinda where my mind ran on it - but I did tie a half dozen Adams with her, and I'll throw some floatant on them and see! Eben
Scarface Z 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2005 Hmmm, my brother does have a cat that's a perfect blue dun color, I wonder... Methinks I should have a pet rabbit for just such a purpose.
atroutbum2 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2005 I had a friend who called his cat "Dubbing". I always thought it was the cats name.
