mikechell 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2019 I know this has nothing to do with fly tying, but a while back there was a buzz about the nut used to display a fly looking like an Alien pod. I saw this and had to post it. I GOT TO GET ONE OF THESE! But I'm kind of freaked out about putting it on..LOL I mean, that's prettty messed up man!!! I don't do "Halloween" ... just another party I don't go to. But THAT mask might make me change my mind !!! ^^^^^ WTF! Belongs in The Lodge forum. It has no business in the fly of the month. No big deal ... we always get back on topic on these threads.

vicrider 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2019 This is a rather unusual hook and hope it might work like a Klinkhammer emerger. It is the equivalent of a 14 in size but a Kahle in design. Was told this is a bait hook style but if it works like this and doesn't hook the fish bad I'll tie some more.

Kimo 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2019 Another batch of damsels for a friend who fishes Spinney. These are a touch smaller with an over-sized front hook for better hookups.I also place a large ball of UVKS on the bead chain eyes to magnify them. This is some of the olive-brown ostrich that I got from Shane Stalcup. No one dyed materials like him. His tertiary colors were incredible. He would often double dip to get the colors he wanted. I'm also using photo stacking to get tack sharp focusing on the damsels. The rust colored damsels in the back are the nstage of the damsel andthe period when they are most vulnerable.Kimo

Philly 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2019 Just handed over the fly box I was tying up for my niece and her husband. They came down from Vermont for my sister's retirement celebration. Hopefully, I'll have a report on if they will catch anything, by the time I head up there the first week in June. I kept it fairly simple just some generic patterns. First up Nalle Puh. It's a Scandinavian fly, if I remember correctly, used in riffle waters. I've had decent luck with it over the years for brookies and browns over the years. I caught my first Upper Delaware brown trout on it many years ago. The original pattern calls for cinnamon bear hair for the wing. Don't have any so I used tan or cinnamon CDC for it. This ones a variation of the Usual. Instead of using the underfur from a snowshoe rabbit foot dubbed for the body. I wrapped a CDC feather. They give me a better selection of colors to match the may fly body. This one is a variation of the Quigley Cripple. I used pheasant tail for the body and tails. A wrapped yellow CDC feather for the thorax. Snowshoe hare for the wing and grizzly for the hackle. I tied up a bunch of CDC and Elks, but forgot to take a picture of one. Tied up some beetles, lightning bug, a cricket and a grasshopper.
Philly 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2019 Part two. These are the beetles, cricket and hopper that I tied up, along with a couple of extended body mayflies. These are foam patterns and what I did was coat the foam and in the beetles the whole body with a flexible UV resin. The beetles. The thin one is suppose to be a lightning bug. The bottom shot doesn't show up well in the picture, but the "light" is tied with glow-in-the dark thread. The grasshopper and the cricket. Side view of the grasshopper. I could not get the front legs to splay out. Mayflies Green Drake Generic brown/tan mayfly
