salmobytes 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2019 ...it's an old fly and not from my vise. But it's a good pic no? Forgotten flies are still good. Thin wispy and sparse sinks faster too.
Sandan 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2019 I'm using either peacock or ostrich. This is the link to Roy Christies method for tying the wing. https://youtu.be/79CIUD2n0gE Kimo Thank you sir, that's genius.
salmobytes 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2019 RE> the Roy Christie parachute. Lazier tiers can wind the feather around both legs of the nylon loop and then feed the tip of the hackle into the loop prior to pulling out the nylon. At this point it looks the same bit it's not as durable as Christie's method But a sewing needle with a drop of fabric cement fixes the durability issue. I'm not saying it's better. Just another way. And perhaps more easier.

niveker 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2019 Playing around last night with a hen pheasant skin harvested this fall, basic soft hackle using only feathers from that bird, wire, and thread. #12 Looks like I need to dilute the Sally Hansens to help it to seep into the threads.
