I want you to try something. When I take pictures of flies, I almost always lay them on a surface. Rarely are they in the vise. If they are in the vise, there's a surface right behind it. I believe you're camera/phone is auto-focusing on something in the background. Try laying a fly on a surface, and taking the picture that way. See if the focus is better that way.

Or if it's an option use there manual focus mode on your camera, that's what I do.

Yes, I do. I got them because I was tying down to 26 - 28 for flies for the San Juan. I didn't have as much access to the back of the hook with the regular jaws.

Haven't gone above #2. I just make sure I go deeper into the jaw to clamp the hook.

Caloosa bug, what is the tail made from?

Its a small zonker strip over some buck tail.

 

 

Your fun with foam swap prompted me to start refilling my panfish box.

These are on a #8 mustad dry hook.
