"White River Fly Shop' hip boots Any good?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to get a pair of hip boots for my small stream fishing. I'd prefer to actually try them on in person rather than order on-line. The local Bass Pro Shop is still open here in NH. They carry a line of boots called "White River Fly Shop". Does anyone have any experience with these boots?
Thank you.

IF you can still find anything labelled "White River".  Seems to me, Cabela's took over the fly fishing section of BPS.  Last time I was in a BPS, everything in the fly shop had Cabela's name on it.

I don't have any experience with boots.  I've bought fly rods and reels, tying equipment and a little bit of materials from "White River".  No dissatisfaction with any of it.  I am quite sure BPS and "White River" don't manufacture any of the things they sell, so the quality of the boots is based on WHO made them.   If you can find that bit of information out, you'll have a better idea of their worth.

Good luck with that.

No, but at the prices of White River waders I don't think you can really get burned.  Was a big fan of Cabela's Guide series in hippers, but they discontinued the line and offer nothing of that quality level anymore.  My last pair went about 8 years and many miles.

Current replacement I have are by Lacrosse (Big Chief) which were about $150.00.  Not bad, but I wouldn't recommend and doubt they'll go as long as the previous Cabela's product.  Ankle stability and tread/sole are lousy, too...very soft rubber.  Honestly, it seems everyone farmed-out and went crappy on hippers in recent years so I say go low and patch as necessary.

Some of the White River stuff looks pretty decent in the hipper market these days, I wear size 14 so my options are limited.

Our local Cabela's has a White River UL Classic reel available that looks suspiciously identical to my LL Bean Double L reel (which I love and value BTW).  It's a good bet the same Korean manufacturer produces both of them only with a different finish.  They both list for the same price as well.
